Artist Research Project

Mrs. Erickson Advanced Art 12th Grade The artist I chose is Helen Dardik, she is currently an illustrator who lives in the Ukraine, she has a very whimsical and childlike style, she focuses on nature and characters as her subject matter. I chose Helen for this project because I find her art very unique and aesthetically pleasing, she uses clean lines and flat values. To mimic her effortless style I chose to paint a character with similar style to Helen's, and then I decided to add a pattern of flowers and leaves to encompass her style as a whole in one piece. This is one of my favorite projects because I love getting to try to emulate my favorite artist’s styles and see how I can incorporate my style in as well. What I hoped to have achieved with this project is an accurate representation of Helen Dardik while still adding my own unique style to the piece. |

Fear & Phobia Project

"The Dark"
Acrylic
12th Grade
I have a fear of the dark, this is called achluophobia. In this project I wanted to express this through the relationship between humans and nature. The girl in the paintings eyes are black, representing the reflection of fear in her eyes. Her hair is made out of flowers which represents her connection to nature, but as her fear of the dark grows her connection to nature slowly starts dying, hence the petals falling from her hair. Her connection to nature is dying because she is afraid of the dark which is a result of nature. I wanted to create a painting that can connect to those who have a true phobia of the dark, a painting that can truly represent a deeper meaning behind what its like to be afraid of the dark.

Still Life Project

“Incorporation”
Colored Pencil & Markers
12th Grade
For my still life I chose two objects from my bedroom. These objects are important to me because they represent my style. Both the items are decorative pieces that incorporate nature, the orange rock is a salt lamp, and the other a potted cactus. I love surrounding myself with things that incorporate nature and man made objects because to me it forms a bond between human beings love for nature, that they would be able to combine two opposing things to make something beautiful. I chose to use color in my drawing because I felt that people wouldn’t truly be able to see the integrity of the items without the use of color. Overall I want people to see how beautiful nature can be when combined with man elements.

Illustration Project

Mrs. Erickson Advanced Art 12th Grade Illustration Project For this project I created three different drawings all done in colored pencils. For the first one I created an African scenery with a woman standing in the foreground. For the next I created an island scenery with a woman sitting in the foreground. Lastly I created an asian scenery with a man standing in the foreground. Each drawing contains the same sunset. The message I am hoping to convey with the poem on the pages and the drawings themselves is that no matter how different everyone is, we all live under the same sun and we she be able to accept and love everyone in this world no matter skin color, religion, or age, and that the human race. We should be able to find peace because we all share a home, and we must be accepting of one another to have a positive living environment for everyone. |
Final Project

Mrs. Erickson Advanced Art 12th Grade Veronica For this project I wanted to create something simple yet beautiful. I created this piece using acrylic paint. I first started with the leaves and flowers creating a border. At first I wasn't sure what to put in the middle of the floral frame, I debated between doing words or a person. I chose to paint a person because it was outside of my comfort zone, I find it really hard to paint both abstract or realistic people and make it look good. I didn't have a model to look at, I simply just came up with the girl I painted in my head and named her Veronica. I want this piece to represent simplicity and creativity, and I hope that people will be able to picture themselves in the painting as an abstract character. |
