Artist research project
Poppy
My favorite artist is Georgia O'Keeffe. She has a very unique style of art. Her main medium was paint. She used mostly nature in her art and focused mainly on flowers. Georgia has been my favorite artist ever since I was young. I remember my art teacher in elementary school had a poster of one of her flowers and I loved it. For this project I chose one of her famous works called the poppy to base my painting off of. To make this piece original I wanted a more abstract look, so I used lots of bright color and a dark black outline. I didn't use shading or value because i wanted a very flat look that was simple. I chose colors that were all relatively close on the color wheel. Most of the colors are warm toned but I added a few purple tone shades to add contrast and to keep movement throughout the piece. I also did not want to put colors that were overly similar to each other, just so it would add even more to the contrast and abstract qualities in the piece. (September 2014) *For sale

Flower
For this project I wanted to use something that has always brought me happiness. Georgia O'Keeffe is my favorite artist and I recently did a piece similar to one of her works of art,(above) and I enjoyed that project a lot. I decided to use another one of her pieces as inspiration for this project. Her work brought me happiness and I wanted to use her style to bring other people the same happiness I feel when looking at her art. I used a she had painted to base my project off of, and I wanted to use a lot of bright color and contrast, because to me color does a great job of portraying happiness. I have always loved flowers from a young age. I love to receive them, to pick them, and to give them to people, mostly my mom. I have had lots of great memories involving flowers and that's why I correlate flowers with happiness. Another reason why I chose a flower for this project because flowers can symbolize love, happiness, tranquility, and even death. This gives people many different options for interpretation, and that is a quality I like to have in my art. (October 2014)

Fear & phobia project
Alone
Monophobia is the fear of being alone. There's always a possibility of being alone. You don't know. People leave, people die. They leave you alone. There's no way of knowing what people will do and that's scary. Fear is caused mostly by what people don't know, for example that's why people finds masks scary, you don't know whats underneath it. That's the same with people, you don't know whats on the inside, what their thinking. The future is uncertain, therefore the future is scary. (November 2014) *For sale

Two Faced
This is a picture of me. One side of my face has makeup on it and the other side is completely makeup free. One half of my hair is straightened and the other half is natural. People often define people by how they look, if you wear a lot of makeup you are fake, if you don't wear any makeup you're lazy. This is not true. No matter how I do my hair, no matter how I do my makeup I am always the same person. People put emphasis on "natural beauty", but to me a persons confidence is beauty. A persons character is beauty. And lastly a persons heart is beauty. So no matter how much or how little makeup someone wears they can still be naturally beautiful. In the drawing I have my eyes crossed, which is a typical face that I make, and with makeup or without I stay the same and honestly that's all that really matters. Be more concerned about whats inside a person than what you see on the outside. Makeup is okay, no makeup is okay, its a confidence thing.
